Baby orangutan rescued from a house in Borneo

Budi is a baby orangutan that has been rescued from a house in Borneo by International Animal Rescue in Indonesia. He is making a slow recovery after he was kept in a chicken cage for the whole 10 months and fed only condensed milk.
On arrival at IAR’s orangutan rescue centre Budi’s condition was extremely critical, and he was too frail to move or sit up on his own.

Budi was so malnourished that his bones were malformed and his limbs swollen from a lack of protein. He was screaming in pain every time he was moved by the vets.

“We cannot even imagine how much pain this small baby has suffered. At the moment we are still worried for his life and trying to minimise his pain. But Budi is a very strong little baby and he is fighting very hard to survive,

says IAR’s Indonesian programme director Dr Karmele L Sanchez.
