A goat named Mr. G and a donkey named Jellybean lived together in neglect for 10 years. They lived on the property of a woman who could barely take care for herself, let alone the dozens of dogs she hoarded and three barnyard animals. After they were rescued, Mr. G and Jellybean were sent to different sanctuaries.
Animal Place was one of two sanctuaries offering to help the goat and donkey, but they could only take in the goat, and the other sanctuary could only take the donkey. That didn’t sit well with Mr. G, who spent his days lying in a corner of his stall, barely lifting his head. He also refused to eat. Staff tried every treat but nothing worked. Until a volunteer offered to make the 14-hour roundtrip journey to bring the donkey to Animal Place and reunite Mr. G with his best friend.
When Jellybean entered Mr. G’s stall, he could barely believe his eyes. He erupted from his prone position, snorting and inhaling Jellybean’s presence. He rushed after her into their outdoor pasture. Within 20 minutes of being reunited, mr. G started to eat.
